ChirpList is a mailing list and analytics platform for Second Life businesses. This Privacy Policy explains how data is collected and used.
For ChirpList Account Holders
What We Collect
- Second Life avatar UUID and name
- Email address (optional, for website login)
- Subscription tier and payment information
- Your subscriber lists and message history
- Your visitor analytics data
How We Use It

For Visitors to ChirpList User Venues
What ChirpList Users May Collect About You
When you visit a venue using ChirpList's tip jar or visitor tracking:
Automatically Collected:
- Your avatar UUID (public Second Life identifier)
- Your avatar display name (public information)
- Date and time of your visit
- Region/location name
- Whether you're a subscriber to that venue's list
- Whether you've tipped at that venue
NOT Collected:
- Private messages or chat logs
- Your inventory or personal data
- Your activity outside that specific venue
- Your real-world identity
- Your payment information (beyond tips you voluntarily give)
How Venue Owners Use This Data
ChirpList users (venue owners, performers, businesses) use visitor data for:
- Marketing analytics and conversion tracking
- Understanding event attendance and engagement
- Identifying potential subscribers
- Improving their business operations
Your Rights as a Visitor
Opt-Out: Visitor tracking uses Second Life's standard sensor functions (similar to how any script can detect nearby avatars). To avoid detection:
- Stay outside the 20-meter sensor range
- Contact the venue owner to request data deletion
Data Deletion: You can request deletion of your visitor data by:
Transparency: Responsible ChirpList users should disclose visitor tracking via:
- Hover text on tip jars
- Venue descriptions or signage
- Website privacy policies
Data Retention
ChirpList Platform Data
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Subscriber lists: Retained until you delete them
- Message history: Retained for service functionality
- Deleted accounts: Data purged within 30 days
Visitor Tracking Data
- We recommend venue owners retain visitor data for 90-180 days maximum
- Older data should be aggregated (anonymized) or deleted
- Individual visitor records can be deleted upon request
Data Sharing
What We Don't Do
- We do NOT sell your data to third parties
- We do NOT share visitor data between different ChirpList users
- We do NOT track users across multiple unrelated venues
When We May Share Data
- With your explicit consent
- To comply with legal obligations
- To protect our rights or safety
- With service providers (hosting, payment processing) under strict confidentiality
Security
We implement reasonable security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
- Secure database storage
- Access controls and authentication
- Regular security updates
However, no system is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe.
Cookies and Website Tracking

Children's Privacy
ChirpList is intended for Second Life users who are 18+ per Linden Lab's Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
